The Wall Street Journal recently ran a piece on franchise and chain massage therapy studios. These types of studios have long "demystified" massage and lowered it's price point, but the newspaper went undercover to see what kind of an experience the facilities provided. They visited a Massage Envy and Massage Heights, among others.

4. Eat smaller meals more often
5. Laugh

Most people know No. 1-4 pretty well, but No. 5 is a funny (literally) one. Turns out that you can tack 10 to 14 calories on your metabolic rate just by chuckling along with a comedy. Does wonders for the mood, too.

Don't Get Hot and Bothered

When you think of Spring you usually think of flowers, chirping birds, occasional rain downpours and warm breezes. However, Spring may have a serious downside to those who are prone to migraines. According to new research, higher temperatures and low air pressure may be linked to headaches. And at this time of year in the Midwest, many are afflicted by the erratic temps. 

Don't rule out your beach spring break location just yet though.Researchers note that more research is needed and that there doesn't seem to be a higher rate of headaches in warmer climates.

Well this is ironic: A new study shows that campaigns that promote physical activity may increase people's appetites. The research is published in the March issue of the journal Obesity and examines how people react to food after seeing posters that feature people working out. Study subjects also ate more after hearing action type words.

Researchers Say Energy Work Reduces Pain

In a new study from the University of Missouri-Columbia, researchers found that 73 percent of patients receiving non-contact therapeutic touch (more commonly known as energy work or energy healing) experienced a significant reduction in pain, had fewer requests for medication and slept more comfortably following surgery than patients who did not receive energy work.

Although this Asian practice has been going on for hundreds of years, it's nice to see some scientific research to back it up, especially as "alternative medicine" may not be as "alternative" as we once thought.
