Massage Helps Reduce Dentists' Pain

Although many people are afraid of going to the dentist, turns out that dentists themselves struggle with pain, too. According to recent research of almost 400 dentists, 72 percent report should pain, 70 percent suffer from neck pain and about half have low-back pain.

Although dentists in Thailand have long been using massage therapy to reduce their pain, U.S. doctors haven't quite jumped on the massage bandwagon yet. It's estimated that traditional Thai massage can reduce pain by 52 percent of those affected. Read the full article on how massage can help reduce dentists' pain here.

It is sad that the US dental world doesn't accept the help that massage and bodywork can bring. I practice CranioSacral Therapy, and an orthodontist in Wichita literally laughed in my face when I suggested CST to help relieve pain with his TMJ patients. So sad . . .

A well educated therapist who receives proper massage therapy training at an accredited institution will learn at least the basics of accessing the temporalis and masseter muscles which alleviate numerous symptoms of facial pain and dysfunction. Highly skilled practitioners will also learn to work inter-orally on pterygoids.

I agree with massage school here! choose the best massage therapy school and you will be able to master a lot of the techniques once you graduate.

Using massage therapy has been a proven approach to manage chronic musculoskeletal pain. However, a better approach would be to isolate the Cause of the chronic pain and eliminate that cause. By so doing, the need for ongoing pain management is eliminated.

Several years I published a paper on two previously unrecognized embryological foot structures that I linked to the development of postural distortions and resulting chronic musculoskeletal pain. By directly treated those foot structures, the chronic pain is eliminated or greatly attenuated.

What a wonderful idea, and an certainly one who's time has come.

We've been working with the same concepts for years. Of course, we do agree that getting to the root of the issue is the best and optimal treatment, however, exigencies do occur, and time may be of the essence.

As a physical therapist, I highly recommend massage therapy for dentists and their assistants. Their posture during dental procedures places quite a strain on the neck and back muscles and spinal alignment can become asymmetrical. A common problem occur at the atlas. When the atlas vertebra's position is corrected, the painful condition is more like to recover. If the atlas remains in an asymmetrical position, then the massage will provide only short-term relief.

We see that patients get significant pain relief from massage. It is a shame that some people will not try new things.

Thanks you very much for the interesting article.
