Get Your Zzzs to Lose Weight

We all know how positively a good night's rest can make you feel. After all good sleep can help reduce stress, improve productivity and put that spring in your step. New research in the Annals of Internal Medicine has found that sleep is also a powerful ally in weight-loss.

According to the study, when dieters got a full night's sleep, they lost the same amount of weight as when they slept less. However - and this is a big however - when dieters got adequate sleep, more than half of the weight they lost was fat. When they cut back on their sleep, only one-fourth of their weight loss came from fat.
Dieters who got less sleep also reported to have more hunger.

Biologically, when sleep was restricted, dieters produced higher levels of ghrelin, a hormone that triggers hunger and reduces energy expenditure. Bottom line? Dieting or not, get those Zzzs for optimal health! Click here to read about more the weight-loss and sleep study.
